THE LIBERTY PROGRAM

The Liberty Program

For horses and humans who want to have fun together.

Liberty work is being able to communicate with your horse with no halter or lead rope and have them feel free to interact, dance and play with you “at liberty.” Not only is this an amazing way to create a deep, meaningful bond with your horse, but it is something FUN that horses of all ages and physical abilities can do with ease and joy! If you’ve dreamed of having your horse stay with you even when you take off the halter, dancing in circles around you and expressing to you their truest selves, liberty is the way to make that dream come true.

The Harmonized Horsemanship method of liberty work does not punish your horse for leaving. I do not want horses to stay with us because they are avoiding the alternative. I want them to stay because it feels good to be with me. This method can take a bit longer to train, since we aren’t resorting to mind control tactics, but the result is a happy liberty horse who knows he has the freedom to leave if he chooses!

Examples of what your horse will learn in The Liberty Program:

  • how to walk and trot beside you with no lead rope

  • Circling and turning around you at liberty

  • Spanish walk, pedestal work, and other tricks

  • How to come when you call them

Timeframe:

Because of the free nature of liberty work, horses learn at very different rates. The length of the program will depend on how much you’d like them to learn. Most horses will achieve the side-by-side walking and trotting within a couple of weeks. Liberty circles are a bit more advanced and can take a while longer, depending on the horse.

Prerequisites:

The horse must be at least 1 year of age and be respectful on the ground. If the horse is not respectful on the ground, it is recommended to start with the Handling Program.

Cost:

Because of the variant nature of this program, cost will be discussed upon evaluation.
